My car needs an oil change and I might as well get it done at my friends’ job, so I need to buy good oil and an oil filter.
I’m taking suggestions.

I feel like Mobil 1 is always a safe choice

I bought Mobil 1 and a Wix filter. It’s been a good 1,500 miles so far.

I only use Mobil 1 synthetic in my cars.

Read and learn (Although you’ll be reading for awhile).
After I read this, I settled on Penzoil Ultra Premium Platnium (Dark gray bottle). It tested up in the ‘outstanding’ category in wear protection at normal opertaing temps (230*), and was re-tested up at 275* and only had a 2.7% drop in capability.

Used cooking oil and a coffee filter. In my racecar I use Motul 300V and OEM filters.

I generally always run Mobil 1 and a Bosch filter. Just see what the manufacturer recommends and get that.
The engineers that designed your car are smarter than you.

Totally depends on what you’re using it for. If it’s a stir-fry I like the lightness of the synthetics (Mobil 1 is perf) but if you’re going good old fashioned deep fry, like fried chicken, I actually prefer the cheaper non synthetics. Castrol is great.
I’d suggest avoiding Royal Purple though as I think it leaves an aftertaste.
Don’t forget to strain the oil when you’re finished with it and before disposing of it inside of your car’s engine otherwise you’ll be that guy heading down the road smelling like a Popeye’s Fried Chicken.
Don’t be that guy.

I’d say Mobil 1. You can get a sweet rebate for it here, too . I usually stock up once a year with this rebate.
Pretty sure this is only for the US. Sorry if that’s a problem. Also, the participating retailers list may not show stores around you (Autozone, Advanced Auto, Walmart), but every time I’ve called and asked about that, Mobil has said they’ll accept receipts from those retailers as well.

“Exhaustive” doesn’t begin to describe the info on that website. Wow.

I use Mobil 1, but thats just because it seems to burn less of it.

OEM filter from the dealer.
Amsoil if you wanna run synthetic.
Otherwise, Valvoline. Buy the five-quart jug from Walmart.

I’ve been told by many mechanics to use any full synth but penzoil. So Mobile 1, Kendall, Quaker State, Castrol, all good stuff.

AMSOil is generally considered best, but really anything synthetic.

I vote Mobil 1 as well. I think last time I got 5 qts for like 20 bucks after rebate or something crazy. Most dealers don’t even get it in bulk that cheap.

Two years ago I bought 4 jugs, sent one rebate to my house and one to the in-laws house. Last year I only bought 2 jugs. I think I have 2 5-quart jugs I bought last year still sitting in the garage. My stupid-pile-of-trash Malibu has been in the shop a number of times this year, and we just had them change the oil each time so I haven’t needed to do it. It’s about time for my yearly oil change on the Tacoma (only put ~5k miles/year on it), so I’ll use one up soon.

I run Mobil 1 and a Mann filter on my 250k mile Subaru. It only burns a quart for every 5k mile oil change.
